What makes this Tanker particularly unique is the Disc Brake Delete option, which replaced the newly standard disc brakes for 1965 with the drum brakes of the previous model year.
This Tanker was also ordered with the following options:

It is said that two types of people typically ordered the N03 36-gallon fuel tank: the first were those looking to take the car directly from the dealership floor to the racetrack to compete in endurance racing; the second were traveling businessmen and women who wanted to look stylish while covering long distances without frequent fuel stops. We believe this Tanker was ordered by the latter.
With factory air conditioning, leather interior, teakwood steering wheel, power brakes, and power steering, this Corvette is one of the most elegantly optioned Tankers produced.
This Corvette was once part of the K.D. James Collection. K.D. was a well-known Corvette collector with a particular interest in N03 Big Tank carshe would chase them down across the country. Eventually, the Corvette ended up in the garage of Bob Gregory, a renowned Corvette restorer who often completed restorations for top collectors.
When K.D. expressed interest in selling the car in the early 2000s, Bob contacted his friend Bruce Smith, who already owned a 1966 Red L79 N14 N03 Tanker and had a strong interest in Big Tank Corvettes. Bruce purchased the car in 2004 and undertook a complete, comprehensive restoration, working alongside his brother Scott Smith, Bob Gregory, and Dick Ferrando of D&A Corvette.
Dick, a highly experienced Corvette restorer and painter, refinished this Corvette in lacquera process that few modern painters can still execute to the level of excellence seen here.
After completion, Bruce entered the Tanker into the national Corvette judging circuit, where it earned numerous awards. Eventually, Bruce sold the car to Joe Verrillo of Verrillo Motor Car Co. in Clifton Park, NY.
Joe continued the legacy by entering the car into further judging events, earning the prestigious NCRS Top Flight Award, Bloomington OEM Gold, and most recently, a MCACN Gold Spinner and Triple Diamond Award. |
