Gateway Classic Cars is proud to digitally present this 1998 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible. The 5th generation of corvette began in 1997 with a new redesign which included a more ridged frame that allowed for better handling with a 50-50 weight distribution. Transmission was also upgraded and moved to allow for a rear mounted trans-axil assembly. In 1998 the C5 convertible was introduced and with the upgrades and changes allowed for a better driving experience for the convertible variant with less body twisting. The C5 corvette convertible also allowed for a actual trunk area with the convertible top which is something that has not been seen since the 1962 model year. This 1998 corvette is in a very nice gray paint from the beautiful wedge corvette front end to the high shoulder and wide rear. The C5 has a very distinctive aggressive side body lines reminiscent of the older mako shark styling of the 1960's. The pop-up headlights and circle taillights with the quad upgraded Borla chrome exhaust tips round out the corvette look. The engine is the standard fuel injected 5.7 litter V8 mated to a 6-speed manual transmission which is a great compromise of fuel economy and the fun of standard transmission. The interior has a nice black and silver color scheme that really works with the exterior. Interior features include nice black leather bucket seats with seat belts, a black matching dash with white lettering gauges and switches. Center console features the AC Delco theft lock factory AM/FM/CD radio and dual climate controls. Rounding out the rear of the cockpit style interior is the storage compartment that is divided by the color matching center support with a predominant large checker flag/Chevrolet flag emblem. Under the hood you will find the original 350CID V8 paired to the MX1 3-speed automatic transmission. This silver anniversary is also equipped with a Greenwood hood and rear fenders. The Wing on the rear is actually part of the rear fenders and gives this Vette a very unique look. So unique, the owner states that there were only 6 Corvettes made like this, and only 4 remain, as 2 were totaled in accidents. This one was not. Gateway Classic Cars of Houston is happy to offer this “25th Anniversary” 1978 Chevrolet Corvette L82 4-speed from our Houston showroom. The Silver Anniversary Corvettes were 25 years in the making, and to celebrate the first quarter century of Corvettes, a completely re-designed body was rolled out with new “fastback” styling. Every Corvette this year came with special 25th anniversary badging and the special “Anniversary Edition” included a unique two-tone paint job in Charcoal Silver and Silver Metallic, easily identifying them as an Anniversary Editions. Those in 1978 who were unable to get their hands on a Pace Car edition could still purchase one of these Silver Anniversary Edition Corvettes, as this option (specifically, B2Z 25th Anniversary Paint) was not limited in production like the Pace Car editions were. Selecting this option package required checking the box for the aluminum wheels and dual sport mirrors, and buyers received a Corvette finished in silver metallic above and charcoal silver below, with pin stripes to accentuate the fenders, wheel arches, fender vents and hood. The 25th Anniversary Corvette could be ordered with a wide array of options, meaning that no two are likely to be identical. The 1978 Corvette performance has been improved with a dual snorkel air cleaner and new low-restriction exhaust system and mufflers on the available “L82” optioned 350 C.I.D. V8 powerplant. This engine also features a higher lift camshaft, special cylinder heads with larger valving, impact-extruded pistons and a forged crankshaft with 4-bolt main bearing caps, plus finned aluminum rocker arm covers to disperse heat more efficiently. The transverse rear leaf spring in the independent rear suspension was widened to reduce stress and the new Four-Speed manual transmission was standard. The close-ratio, 4-Speed manual gearbox added to the thrills with gearing designed for the numerous up-and-down shifts associated with Corvette driving demands and was fully synchronized with a 2.43-to-1 first gear ratio. The 25th Anniversary Edition Corvettes have always been sought after as highly collectible classics and have really come into their own in recent years & this example is no exception. The company has designed systems for many General Motors vehicles, however the Chevrolet Corvette has been one of the most successful vehicles. This Lingenfelter Corvette is set in a wonderful metallic blue with silver stripes with the Lingenfelter branding throughout the car. The car is powered by a modified supercharged 5.7 V8 and mated to the 4 speed automatic and is ready to run down the highway.
