1962 Corvette Convertible — Roman Red The Last of a Breed. The Purest of the Breed. If you came up watching these cars roll off the line — or wishing you could afford one when they were new — you already know what 1962 means. It was the final year of the C1, the last Corvette with exposed headlights, the last with a solid rear axle, the last before Zora Arkus-Duntov and GM reinvented the car as the Sting Ray. For a lot of us, the '62 isn't just the end of an era — it's the era, distilled down to its cleanest, most honest form. No fins, no gimmicks. Just a real American sports car. This particular '62, finished in Roman Red, is the kind of car that reminds you why you fell for these things in the first place. A Restoration Done Right Back in 2009, this car went through a complete frame-off restoration — no shortcuts, no half-measures. Over $200,000 went into it, and every bit of that work is documented. We're talking full photo records and receipts, organized into individual booklets covering all three owners going back to day one. If you've been around this hobby a while, you know how rare that kind of paper trail really is — and how much it matters when it comes time to sell, insure, or simply know exactly what you own. Built to Drive, Not Just Display Whoever restored this car understood that a Corvette this good deserves to actually be driven, so a few smart, tasteful upgrades were added along the way: Rebuilt 327 V8, running strong, dressed up with polished Chevrolet valve covers and a chrome air cleaner (believed to be a 340 HP) 4-speed manual with the correct white shift knob Front disc brakes — the upgrade every '62 owner wishes had come from the factory Rack and pinion power steering, a world of improvement over the original recirculating ball setup Limited slip differential White convertible top, still in excellent shape How She Presents The Roman Red paint is deep and glossy — the kind of color that stops people in a parking lot. Chrome and stainless are excellent throughout. Inside, the black interior is clean, correct, and every gauge works as it should. There are no leaks and no repairs needed — the car has no known issues at this time. Only one small item needs attention — the windshield wiper cable (the motor itself runs fine). With fewer than 2,000 miles logged since the restoration, this car earns an honest 8 out of 10. It's not a trailer queen — it's a serious driver-quality restomod, ready for the next show, the next cruise night, or just a Sunday morning with the top down. Odometer show 64K miles which could be original... Third owner, complete ownership history and receipts in hand. Thanks for taking a look at this striking Roman Red 1962 Corvette Convertible. This is the last year of the C1 — the only Corvette generation with a solid rear axle and exposed headlights — and this one is a genuine head-turner that drives as good as it looks. The car was treated to a frame-off restoration approximately 8–10 years ago by a builder with a solid reputation. The quality of that work has been reviewed and confirmed by a local NCRS judge and Corvette restoration specialist who describes it as a decent, honest build. The 327 small block carries the correct GM casting number (3782870) and was rebuilt with a performance cam. It pulls strong and runs well. The 4-speed manual transmission shifts cleanly. The 3.90 rear end gives this car a spirited, engaging driving character that C1 owners love. The body presents beautifully. Paint is deep and glossy with only two minor clear coat bubbles at the tips of the front fender spears — easily addressed. Chrome and stainless throughout rate an honest 98%. The black soft top is in excellent condition with a great fit. The black interior matches the top perfectly and rates equally high — door panels, carpet, and dash are all very clean. Practical upgrades include front power disc brakes, electric-assist power steering, and an auxiliary electric cooling fan — all sensible improvements that make this car more enjoyable to drive without compromising its appearance. Miles show 83K, likely original, but there is no docuemntation. All gauges work with the exception of the clock and Wonderbar radio. Both items are present and correct. This is a strong driver-quality 1962 that will get attention at any show or cruise night. The red-on-black combination is one of the most desirable color pairings on a C1, and this car delivers that classic look with the reliability improvements that make it a car you'll actually want to drive. It now enjoyed and offered for sale by long time Corvette enthusiast in the state of MARYLAND and can be delivered nationwide and all over the world.
